Mid century Homes

I love all aspects of Mid Century Design and was sooo obsessed with Eichler when I was in high school.  He was known for building stylish, affordable track homes in Southern California as well as Northern Cali.  The floorplans were single level houses with an indoor atrium that was often placed in the center of the house.  Every now and then, I'll search and see if any Eichler houses are for sale just to see what condition they are in.  Most often, their home owners restore the interior according to Mid Century style which is always good to see.  I'd love to visit one....someday!

Here is a photo of the exterior of an Eichler house from the backyard.  I love the exposed beams, the glass walls, and minimal aspects of the design.

This photo shows the drama of the glass walls mixed with the wood panels of the ceiling.  If you look closely you can see some Mid century modern type furniture inside.

An Eichler Brochere

Here is a picture of a couple walking through an indoor atrium. This was common in Eichler houses because he wanted to bring "the outside in."

Fun Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! I've been studying Stats for the past two days so that has pretty much taken over my life..except I did go to the Drive-In with Matthew (the bf) and we saw Contagion followed by Drive...I HIGHLY recommend this movie.  It starts off slow, but picks up speed VERY fast.  Ryan Gosling does an excellent job as the ultimate dark super hero.  The soundtrack is also great.  It is a mix between a B-movie feel and of the 70's extortion movies (aka lots of violence, little dialogue).  All in all, it is well worth seeing! I can't wait to see it again!

Manic Monday

For many, including myself, Mondays are not possible without several cups of coffee.  The first day of the week always tends to take a little bit more energy than the other days.  If it was up to me, I would begin every Monday with a mimosa or two, but responsibility calls me to work and school.  Maybe tomorrow ;)

October

I am absolutely obsessed with October.  I love the crisp fall air, bundling up with layers, pumpkin flavored treats (especially chocolate chip pumpkin cookies) my birthday!!! and of course...Halloween! The day to dress up as whatever you want.  You'll see many interesting choices for costumes; some creative, some expected, and some just plain slutty.  Either way, it involves lots of candy, so I'm on board. I work at Pottery Barn, where we get lots of accessories that are easy ways to update your home with a seasonal touch.  I find that most people who come into the store ask the same questions: how can i update my look without going overboard?  I always tell them the same thing...think SMALL.  It's all about the little details that create a mood without looking like a fun house.  I picked out a few of our more popular items that are Halloween oriented.

Here are some burlap canvas string lights that are different, yet kind of unexpected.

These candles I absolutely adore.  They are the newsprint candles are run from $16-25.  I would totally use these year round...they are just too fun! My friend Erin Fosmire would love them because she loooves to read!

These are for the owl lovers out there. Super cute and fun. You could easily keep these around until thanksgiving.

This drink dispenser is probably my favorite.  I'd love to throw a fun Halloween party with "ghoulish" accents to prove that grown-ups can still be little kids sometimes.  Also take note of the mercury glass bowl to the right.  Mercury glass is really in this year and is a great accent to use for the holidays!  I just bought some mercury glass candle holders and they are so pretty when they are lit up with little votives!

Kelly Wearstler's Fall Debut

This fall, Kelly Wearstler debuted her 2011 clothing and accessories line. She has incorporated her love for bold colors, shapes, and textures into ready-to-wear items that are available at Neiman Marcus.

The scarf above is a wool/silk blend and retails for around $200. I love the color combo's and it is totally fall.
She shot these pictures in her Beverly Hills home and if you visit her website, you can see many pictures that show how involved she was during the shoot. Always good to see that the product you're buying is not just stamped out in a factory!

Some more looks from her line. I love the white dress, it is so graceful and retails for around $750.
I love her color choice here. This outfit is easily fall or a summer pick. Love the skirt.
Here's a little montage of her jewelry collection. Definitely statement pieces to add to your existing closet. Love it all.

Interior Designer of the month: Kelly Wearstler

Kelly Wearstler is an Los Angeles based Interior Designer with a flair for "modern glamor." Not only can she bring a room to life, but she has also been named on Vogue's best dressed list numerous times, designs formal flatware for Pickard, designs fabrics for Lee Jofa, an author of three bestselling books, and in her spare time has managed to create a ready to wear fashion line that has debuted this past month at Neiman Marcus. She specializes in commercial and residential Interior Design. I had an opportunity to intern for her when I lived down in LA, but school and work wouldn't allow. If only I could do that now!! She is opening her flagship retail store in LA this year as well. I've included several examples of her work, residential and commercial. If you are interested in learning more about her or her products, visit this site. http://kellywearstler.com/

Just looking at this photo, you are delightfully overwhelmed with different colors, textures, and styles...but yet you're not OVERwhelmed. She incorporates different styles, but keeps the majority of the color within the same color family. She adds interest by incorporating the gold and fun accents.

LOVE the color green on these chairs. This is from the Regency hotel in Santa Monica. I love the frame gallery.
Here is Kelly looking fab. I just love her!
This is from the Regency Hotel in Santa Monica. I absolutely love the color brought in by the bold green in the rug and on the sofa. Note how she keeps the majority of the palette with blacks and whites yet adds some interest with color and using different materials...IE glass, leather, velvet.

Simple glamour

I absolutely love the stark white walls paired with the gilded mirror and folding screen. Then the touches of lace, ruffles, and pastels really pulls it all together. It seems like the look is really disheveled, but the colors and textures still give this a calm feel.

Welcome!

Hey everyone! Welcome to my blog. I've been wanting to write a blog to share my many inspirational design photos, ideas, and other blog sites that have always helped me whenever I was in a rut. Whether you are re-decorating a room or simply just need inspiration...look no further!
